Flipping the Switch

A=Authentic (#coateisaGOAT)

How did I break the cycle?  I remember when the switch flipped for me.  In January 2020 (insert the “Rocky Theme – Eye of the Tiger” here), I was poised to have my BEST YEAR EVER!!! I made a vision board (this will have its own post 😊).  I was closing the rings on my Apple watch daily.  My new Home Planner by Passionate Penny Pincher with its checklists and budget worksheets was going to organize my days and my finances.  And I am not promoting products here, yet (LOL!), but Audible is amazing!  I listened to Rachel Hollis’s Girl Wash Your Face! Y’all I was going to make the year 2020 my bitch!  Then guess what?  COVID…

It took until November of 2020 for me to get back on track and reclaim the mojo I was so psyched about in January.  During quarantine, April-August, I gained back ten of the almost twenty pounds I lost the first 3 months of the year.  I was falling back into the same pattern of not keeping the promise to myself to reach my goal of 140 pounds.  I wasn’t showing up for me.  Why the hell not?  That’s the real root of the issue.  Why didn’t I value myself as much as I did other people?  And when I say “people” I mean any random Joe Schmoe on the street.  What was so disconnected that I could not see my own worth?

Why November and What Changed?  Earlier I mentioned my vision board, this is a key tool that I utilize to keep me on track. (Again, I will dedicate an entire blog to this next week.😊)  For the last three years, I have made one every year.  Each year I accomplish more things that I include on it.  Last year my main goal was to reach my goal weight of 140 pounds.  In November I realized that I was two months away from 2021.  My focus had shifted, and I was not being intentional in reaching the goals that I set for 2020.  I decided to reach out to a friend that was setting a great example working toward optimal health.  She shared her plan with me and that is when things really changed.

Now I am putting in the work and realize that my struggles are not just with food.  That’s where you come into this equation too.  That’s where this journey really begins.  I am just embarking on this “trip,” and I am so excited to welcome you aboard.  Now fasten your seat belt because it might be a turbulent ride.  Brace yourself for what I hope we learn about ourselves.  So far I have learned that self-awareness is a scary thing.  I have to be real with myself.  Are you ready to do the same?  I hope so.  I do love having a travel buddy!

Are you ready?  Ask yourself these questions:  How did you get here?  What is your relationship with food/bad habits?  What patterns do you see when you reflect on past struggles?  Are you ready to break the cycle?  Realize that the best days of your life haven’t happened yet!
